Highway Hospice appeals for more donations

The Highway Hospice notes with concern that the shelves in their storage room are nearly empty.

THE Highway Hospice is calling on the community to continue helping them by donating re-usable items for the charity shop in Pinetown. The Hospice provides care for people with advanced, incurable, terminal illness in the final stages of life, promoting palliative care, which is treatment focused on the patient.

To help them continue this work, the hospice has a charity shop that sells preloved items donated by generous community members and supporters of the organisation. The organisation is appealing to its supporters to carry on as they run through most of their stock and minimal donations come in.

Staff member Janine Gous of the Highway Hospice charity shop said they are concerned as their stock is not as packed as it used to be.

“Our storage rooms are usually filled to the brim thanks to the donations, but we are concerned now as the rooms and some shelves are becoming empty. We usually are able to sell the stock in three months, and with what we have left, we are afraid that we might not have enough to get us through the next months,” she said.

The charity shop usually runs auctions and sales during the year. For donations, the public is welcome to drop off their donations at the shop in Pinetown on 5 Butts Road. The shop also does collection on certain days of the week in different areas. For more information, the public is welcome to contact the shop on 031 701 4726 or email info@charityshops.co.za.
