Westville resident dies after alleged home invasion shooting

Police in Westville are investigating a case of an alleged home invasion where a resident lost his life due to gunshot wounds.

A WESTVILLE resident has been reported dead after he was shot in an alleged home invasion on Thursday (September 12) afternoon. 

Shortly after the incident, ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson reported that the man, who was in 50s, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after he sustained gunshot wounds in his upper body. 

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find SAPS and security personnel in attendance and were shown into a house. The homeowner, a male in his 50s, had allegedly been shot by intruders in his house.

“He had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body and was in critical condition. Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man on the scene before rushing him to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required,” he said.

The exact circumstances leading up to the shooting are unknown. 

Westville SAPS communications officer Captain Elizabeth Squires confirmed the incident, saying that they are investigating the case.
