HHS principal Denise Knight said they were very pleased when Ndebele accepted the position. “Mr Ndebele has been a valuable member of staff for almost 30 years. During his time at HHS, he has gained the respect of both learners and staff and is well liked.”
“Ndebele’s career journey is an inspiration. He joined Hillcrest High School in an administrative role, transitioning to working as an assistant in the science labs where he identified his passion for teaching. While continuing to work full-time, he studied towards his Bachelor of Education through the University of South Africa, going on to earn an Honours in Leadership, Management and Policy from the University of Pretoria. He has since completed courses, including Dispute Resolution and Leadership Development, to continually build on his skillset,” she said.

Ndebele has fulfilled many roles in the school that include Head of Department: isiZulu in 2014, serving as the teacher in charge of soccer and the first team coach for approximately seven years, membership of the School Management Team and serving as an Educator Representative on the School Governing Body for several terms. As a Grade Controller for the current Grade 12 Class of 2024, he has mentored and supported this group of learners from their first year at the school until now, including implementing a ‘Winter School’ programme for Grade 12s for the first time this year.
