Northdene property businessman laid to rest

The property guru was well known in the Queensburgh area, having owned a real estate business for 17 years.

THE life of local businessman, Ted McDonald (92), was celebrated at a memorial at his home in Northdene.

Family and friends gathered to pay their last respects, with the Highland Piper rendering beautiful laments throughout the ceremony.

His wife, Judi, said she was still coming to terms with his death, taking it one day at a time.

“Ted was a highly intelligent man. He had a great sense of humour, and we spent 36 years together as a married couple,” she said.

He was also generous and supported numerous schools in the area. Property sales was where his true passion lay, and he and Judi ran a successful estate agency for 17 years before retiring together in 2017.

“Ted was a Londoner from an engineering background and came to South Africa in 1965 to escape the fast-paced lifestyle. We came to Queensburgh in the 80s and made it our home. He loved it here,” said Judi.

In his younger years, Ted loved bodybuilding and was a fitness fanatic for his entire life. When he retired, he spent plenty of time at the gym, cycled frequently and took care of business.

He earned his colours for tenpin bowling and cycled in numerous major races, often winning in his age group categories.

“We spent a lot of time together taking walks on the beach, travelling and visiting game reserves. He was a great father to Heather, and I miss him dearly,” she added.

“He has left a huge void in my life, and I’m sure that everyone who knew him will also miss him. I’d like to thank family, friends and the community for their continued support over the years and especially now, during this difficult time,” said Judi.
