Highway Hospice Charity Shop silent auction up and running

The Highway community is invited to Highway Hospice Charity Shop's silent auction, which is already is underway.

THE doors to the silent auction at the Highway Hospice Charity Shop are open, and the community is invited to make their bids. The annual silent auction from June 29 to July 6 is to raise much-needed funds for the organisation to continue its work of rendering care for people with advanced, incurable terminal illness in the final stages of life.

The charity shop has preloved quality items up for grabs and says these items were donated by the public. The items have been carefully selected for the auction, and they range from furniture to vintage musical instruments and collections, and many more.

Explaining how the bidding process works, the auction team from the charity shop said the catalogue is emailed to the bidders for them to see what items interest them. These catalogues have the LOT numbers, photos of the items, a full description and the minimum bid amount.

“The doors of the auction room will remain open for the rest of the week. Bidders are to proceed to the auction counter with a R10 registration fee. There, they fill in their details which we will need in order to contact them regarding the auction. At the auction reception, they will also get their auction registration number and the auction rules.

“The first page will be the rules, and the second page will be the bidding form on which they write the LOT number and a short description of the item they are bidding on – for us to compare with the LOT number. The description is also on the item they are viewing. The third page is only to circle the LOT numbers they are bidding on so we can update the board,” they explained.

The auction team further noted that email bids are accepted. Bidders can also come in and change their bids or add to their registration number at any stage during the week that the doors are open.
When the doors to the auction room close on July 6, bidding will be closed, and it takes a week for the team to capture all the bids, prepare the results and pack the goods.

After the results have been finalised and sent out, the auction room will be open for collections only for a week. Bidders are to collect their goods or arrange a courier as the items cannot be posted.
