10 learners from Upper Highway Schools are on to the next round of the IIE's Varsity College National High School's Quiz 2024.

THE IIE’s Varsity College National High School’s Quiz 2024 kicked off with the first round in the Westville Campus. The annual competition is open to all high schools in South Africa, learners enter as individuals and the competition takes four individuals per school.

The quiz aims to suss out the Grade Nine to 11 learners with their general knowledge questions that focus on geography, history, science and nature, sport, entertainment and current affairs.

The quiz events are to be held in person, at each of the eight IIE’s Varsity College campuses nationally: Sandton, Waterfall, Pretoria, Nelson Mandela Bay, Cape Town, Westville, Durban North and Pietermaritzburg, and learners cannot participate in this quiz remotely or online.
After the first round, the top ten learners will progress to the Regional Final. The Regional Final will take place on Wednesday, June 19, across all eight IIE’s Varsity College campuses nationally. Thereafter, the learners will progress to the Grand Finale, which will be held in Durban at the Durban North campus on July 6. This round will select the top three learners from the KZN and Gauteng region, and top one learner each from Cape Town and Nelson Mandela Bay.

The eight national finalists will each receive a Samsung tablet and a cash prize of R2 500. Each national finalists’ teacher/coach will receive a R500 retail voucher. The national winner will receive a cash prize of R10 000. The national winner’s school will receive a cash prize ofR10 000. The national winner’s teacher/coach will receive a cash prize of R5 000. The first runner-up at nationals will receive a cash prize of R6 000 and R3 000 for their teacher/coach. The first runner-up’s school will receive R6 000. The second runner-up at nationals will receive a cash prize of
R3 000 and R1 500 for their teacher/coach. The second runner-up’s school will receive R3 000.
