Elections 2024: Voting queues build up in first hour at voting stations

The eThekwini mayor commends people for coming out to vote in their numbers.

IT’S all systems go in voting stations in the Upper Highway area as the day of the general elections is upon us. Voters at Pitlochry Primary School voting station in Westville were out in their numbers with the queue building up in the first hour of voting around 07:00 this morning.

eThekwini mayor Mxolisi Kuanda was also in the queue to cast his vote. Commending people for coming out to vote, Kaunda said it shows that people understand the importance of our democracy.

“We need to exercise our right. People died and fought for this right for all of us to vote, so it is important. We will continue to work because there are many people who do not have services – so we still need to do a lot in terms of responding,” he said.

Voting across the province and country will continue until 21:00.
