Being the youngest-ever quarter-finalist in the Port Natal Bowls Novice Champs, Tye said he has his grandfather to thank as he was the one who introduced him to the sport.

“I started in February 2023 after my grandfather, Chaz Unger, introduced me to the sport. I loved the sport and then decided to join Firwood Sports Club where I found Johan and Alta Joubert. I am also grateful to Charlie Tree and Mike Gouws for taking me under their wings,” he said.

Tye said he enjoys the sport so much and looks forward to other competitions that will lead him where he wants to be in the future, which is to play for Bowls for South Africa.
