ANC rally attendees die in bus accident

The ANC confirmed that eight of its members died in a bus accident on their way from the Mayihlome Rally in Durban.

EIGHT people died in a bus accident when a bus transporting them was travelling from the ANC Mayihlome Rally that was held at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, February 24. Police and various emergency services attended to the accident on the R33 between Vryheid and Paulpietersburg in KZN on Sunday morning.

A few hours after the accident was reported, the ANC in the Mpumalanga province confirmed that the bus that overturned was transporting their members.

“Tragically, our comrades were involved in a bus accident in Dumbe, KwaZulu-Natal, in the early hours of the morning while returning from the ANC’s highly successful launch of our elections manifesto – Mayihlome Rally 2024.

“Our comrades exemplified unwavering commitment to the ANC by responding to the rallying call of Mayihlome. It is a true tragedy that there be such a loss of lives after such a memorable day. Their selflessness and commitment to building a better future for generations to come will forever be remembered,” stated the party.

Nomagugu Simelane, the deputy chairperson of KwaZulu-Natal, and the ANC provincial leadership of both Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, made their way to the accident scene and hospitals where they assessed the situation, visit the injured comrades and met with the affected families.

The party extended their condolences to the affected families and party members.
