The hospice works in promoting palliative care which is treatment-focused on the patient.
“The goal is to, ‘make people feel better’, not only physically by providing comfort but also emotionally, socially, practically, intellectually and spiritually,” stated the organisation.

Speaking to the Highway Mail, Janine Gous said the year is off to a good start for the team as they received generous donations from the community during the holiday season. “We received a lot of donations for a sale we had towards the end of the year to clear off shelves to add more items. In the first week of the month, our volunteers came in to help with the spring cleaning. The aim was to prepare the place for the year and put in new stock,” she said.

The shop sells quality preloved items such as kitchenware, clothes, jewellery, toys, furniture and many more. Donations are accepted by either drop-off at the shop or they can be collected on selected days. Furthermore, the shop usually runs auction sales as another way of fundraising. “Our last auction sale was in November, and we sold 477 furniture items. We are looking forward to another one sometime in March this year, but we are still to confirm the dates,’ she said.

The Highway Hospice Charity Shop is on 5 Butts Road in Pinetown and operates from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 15:45 and Saturdays, from 8:30 to 12:00. For more information, the store can be contacted on 031 701 4726.
