Local author’s second book calls kids to eat healthily

Nokuphila Nala pens a book to encourage children to eat fruit and vegetables to make their bodies strong.

LOCAL author Nokuphila Nala has penned yet another book aimed at children. Nala is also a teacher in the Upper Highway area who has dedicated her writing skills to educate children about self-awareness.

Explaining the context of her book, Nala said the book is about promoting healthy eating habits for children, such as explaining how eating fruits and vegetables helps bodies to be strong and healthy.

“My book is aimed at helping children read on their own and to help them understand that eating vegetables [tastes] as good as sugary stuff. The book is easy to read with a few pages for the children to understand well,” she said.

Nala said what prompted her to write the book was how, as a parent of a three-year-old, she saw that children need to know from a young age the importance of eating healthy food.

“This will later impact their bodies and also enhance their knowledge of different fruits and vegetables in the fresh market and the important role they play in their growing bodies,” she said.

Nala said she has been enjoying teaching through her books, and it makes it extra special as she publishes her own books. “My future plans as an author, since I self-publish my own books, is to be the most popular book author and writer in the country one day. Hopefully, with the help of our libraries, I will have an archive of my books in the library, plus [I’d like to] work in one of the big libraries in the country and promote the art of reading,” she said.
