Mariannhill SAPS celebrates soaring success

The Mariannhill station commander commends members for improved work.

THE station commander of the Mariannhill SAPS sang his praises to his team members when the station hosted a year-end function on December 21. Muzi Twala said the function was aimed to acknowledge the good work done by the members with the help of the community.

Twala said the function was to also celebrate their significant improvement.
“We were listed number 42 in the district’s stations, and now, we are number 10. This is due to the excellent work that members in the station have put in.

“We have seen great improvement in convictions, arrests and investigations. All this was made possible through the dedication and hard work of our team members,” he said.

To acknowledge the role played by the community, Twala said they invited a Community Policing Forum member from each of the three sections in the community.

“These are the people who are on the ground helping us to prevent crimes and helping us with ongoing investigations. We acknowledge and appreciate the working relationship we have with the community,” he said.

Furthermore, the Safer Festive Season Inspection Roadshow was wrapped up just before the New Year in the KwaZulu-Natal province with an oversight visit to a port of entry that was once in the grip of criminal activity.

While ending the roadshow at the the Kosi Bay border post in the north of KZN, Police Minister Bheki Cele said, “We are really satisfied with the progress that continues to be made in fighting crime at our borders and the collaboration between law enforcement and the various arms of government at all levels, who work together to purify our borders of any undesired goods or activities. These operations are proving that, together, the enemy of crime, wherever it is, can be defeated.”

Police operations in and around the Kosi border gate have, so far, resulted in the arrest of over 140 suspects linked to cross-border vehicle theft, and more than 64 vehicles have been recovered, including firearms and rifles as well as ammunition used in the commission of some of these crimes.
