Chic Mamas Do Care Durban shop comes to Hillcrest

Chic Mamas Do Care launches store in Hillcrest.

IN CONTINUATION of their efforts towards the Early Childhood Development (ECD) sector, the Chic Mamas Do Care Durban will be moving their premises to Hillcrest. On Friday, November 17, the non-profit organisation (NPO) will be opening their new boutique-style shop at the Colony Shopping Centre in Hillcrest.

Shop Manager Debbie Macpherson said that after three years of operating from a destination store in Westville, the Durban Mamas are delighted to have the opportunity to be in a retail space with abundant foot traffic.

Explaining the work of the shop, Macpherson said, “Chic Mamas Do Care originated in Cape Town, with the idea to apply the charity clothes shop concept but with a focus on high-quality fashion. Given that most women love buying new clothes and most also have items they can donate, the concept has proven to be a perfect solution to raising money for the Chic Mamas cause, which is to support early childhood development projects in neighbouring communities,” she said.

Over the 10-year period of their services to the ECD sector, the organisation has funded the installation of three preschools and sponsored accredited three-year National ECD diplomas for seven educators. Furthermore, they have recently begun funding nutritional needs for preschoolers. “Chic Mamas strongly believes in the importance of Early Childhood Development and that every child should be given the opportunity to grow in a safe and stimulating environment. ECD plays an essential role in the fight to eliminate poverty. It helps to reduce social and gender inequality and enhances the child’s potential economic contribution to society,” she said.

Macpherson said the NPO is also passionate about promoting conscious shopping habits and facilitating the re-use and recycling of preloved quality clothing, handbags, shoes and accessories. “Thanks to Chic Mamas Do Care, customers can lighten their environmental footprint, contribute to the circular economy and support sustainability. It’s also fun and the perfect opportunity for a regular wardrobe overhaul without doing damage to the world around us,” she said.
