Preparing learners for exam season

Youth and childcare practitioner wishes learners well on their exam.

QUEENSBURGH youth and childcare practitioner Zonke Shazi-Hlongwane toured around Durban to prepare the high school learner – Grade Eight to 12 – for exam season. She offers some tips to learners to cope well during exam time.

Shazi-Hlongwane’s programmes were held shortly before the class of 2023 Grade 12s commenced their final National Senior Certificate (NSC) final exam on Monday, October 30.

Through her childcare and parenting organisation, Ikusasa Ngelami, Shazi-Hlongwane got to visit various schools and local radio stations and facilitated programmes that prepared parents and learners for the exam season.

“Through the programme, we offered studying tips, how to use social media as an effective study tool, how to focus on one’s studies, how to overcome exam pressure and anxiety and effective time management.

Shazi wished the class of 2023 well on their exams.

“As you proceed with your exams, remember that challenges are a natural part of the journey. Try your best not to be distracted or discouraged by a previous difficult paper. Do your best to ensure that paper doesn’t define your entire exam experience.

“Stay focused, pace yourself and approach each paper with a fresh mindset. Take breaks to clear your mind, practise relaxation techniques and believe in your abilities. Remember, one tough paper doesn’t determine your future success. Nor does one easy paper give you permission to take things easy. Remember to stay positive, say no to the temptation of de-stressing with social media, keep a steady pace and give your best effort in every moment.”
