WATCH: Kloof Rotary Anns Open Gardens a success

Kloof families open their gardens to the community in the Kloof Anns Rotary annual Open Gardens.

THE Kloof Rotary Anns Open Gardens 2023 was a success with six winners walking away with prizes from the raffle. Four beautiful gardens were up for show, including the Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust (HACT) nursery.

Homeowners who are garden enthusiasts opened their gardens to the community. The Highway Mail visited two gardens whose owners said they were more than happy to be part of the Rotary’s initiative to raise funds for their community projects.

Garden owners, Paul Bushell and Ian Todd, of 11 Lyngarth Road in Kloof, said they enjoy the beautiful views they have achieved with the help of gardening services.

“We are happy to have this ecosystem where everything coexists. We have tried to plant things that attract insects and all other living organisms,” said Bushell.

Other garden owners, Leon and Almut Buhr, said they were happy to share their newfound passion for a good cause. Almut said she is happy to enjoy the work and effort of her husband who comes from a family of gardeners.

“For the past 18 months, he has developed the beautiful plantations we see around here. This is his way of bringing balance to his busy life. It is beautiful to live so close to nature – to see the bees and birds and the new flowers blooming.”
