Two suspects die in a shoot-out with Mariannhill police

Mariannhill Police investigate charges of attempted murder and the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition as well as an inquest following a shoot-out with police.

TWO suspects were fatally wounded in a shoot-out with Mariannhill SAPS members in the early hours of this morning (October 25). 

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said the police at Mariannhill received information from the community that a group involved in criminality in the area was living in a house in Luganda.

“The information also revealed that the men were in possession of firearms. At 03:00 this morning, police officers from Mariannhill approached the house and requested entry from the suspects. The occupants of the home opened fire at the police officers through the windows, and there was an exchange of gunfire,” said Naicker. 

Both suspects, in their twenties, who were in the house, were fatally wounded in the shoot-out. Two 9mm pistols were found in the suspects’ possession. 

Police at Mariannhill are investigating charges of attempted murder and the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition as well as an inquest.
