“However, according to the preliminary assessment done by Disaster Management officials, about 239 people were affected by the heavy rainfall with a total of 29 houses destroyed. One injury was reported in Intshanga due to lightning. Families whose homes completely collapsed have opted to be temporarily accommodated by friends and families,” said City’s spokesperson Gugu Sisilana.

The City also reported that the verification of damaged houses is underway, and social partners have been activated for immediate humanitarian assistance.

Furthermore, the M13 Eastbound, coming down Fields Hill East, between Tracey Watts and Richmond Road, was showing signs of collapsing. Ward 18 councillor Melanie Brauteseth said she escalated the matter to the provincial government as the road belongs to the province.
“I am aware that the road was attended to as it has been barricaded and the Provincial Government is aware of the matter,” she said.
