4 flu remedies to get well on a budget

From a simple saltwater gargle to a sinus massage – here are some ideas to beat the bug this flu season.

NASAL congestion, sore throats, annoying coughs and insomnia – these troublesome symptoms often appear at the mid-year mark. That’s right, it’s cold and flu season, but don’t worry, we have your back. Here are a few home remedies that just might do the trick. We hope these have you back on your feet in no time.

1. Gargle with salt water

A painful, inflamed throat can be eased with a simple saltwater solution. Add half a teaspoon of salt to 250ml warm water and gargle. The warm solution can help to ease throat pain while the salt helps to fight infection with antibacterial properties. Try to gargle a few times a day for best results.

2. Immune-boosting blend

Ginger, lemon, cinnamon, turmeric and honey are known for their immune-boosting properties. Add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and turmeric to a cup of boiled water with plenty of fresh ginger and lemon to make a flu-fighting tea or add the same ingredients to a juicer with carrot and orange for an immune-boosting juice.
