Progress as church rebuilds homes for flood victims

The Anglican Church in the Upper Highway is giving progress reports on the rebuilding of a family home that was lost during the April 2022 floods.

THE building of the Sikhakhane home in Molweni is underway as the family pick up the pieces after losing their home to the April 2022 floods. The Anglican churches in the Upper Highway area announced in December 2022 that they would assist the families secure a piece of land where they can rebuild.

Announcing the project in December 2022, Rev Sizwe Ngcobo said, “The Anglican Church in the Upper Highway is joining hands in breaking the restraints that plunge people into undignified conditions. So far, we have identified two families to assist in building them homes. The first is a family of eight whose house and family graveyard were ripped apart and washed away during the floods in April. They have managed to secure a piece of land in Molweni.

“The second one is a family of two elderly senior citizens whose lives have been deteriorating since being accommodated in KwaDabeka Hall.”

Reporting on the progress recently, Rev Ngcobo said they were happy to see that the walls are up, and it is a matter of a few months before the Sikhakhane family can move into their new home.

“A four-bedroom house for the flood-affected family is on the way. We are grateful to the members of the community for every gift given to assist in laying a solid foundation in this family’s life. The project is halfway through, and we appeal to the members of the community to join us in this important mission. Any contribution will be used to cover any expenditures for this project.”
