DA marches to Umbilo Wastewater Treatment Works

The Democratic Alliance demands that the Umbilo Wastewater Treatment Plant be fixed.

THE Democratic Alliance (DA) is making their way to the Umbilo Wastewater Treatment Works to hand over a memorandum that demands the treatment works be fixed. Residents in the Highway area and other parts of Durban have been engulfed with sewage issues – some as a result of the infrastructure damage caused by the April 2022 Floods.

Leading the march is the provincial chairperson, Dean Macpherson; Tex Collins West Durban Political Head; Martin Meyer, chairperson; ward councillor Vincent Mkhize; Councillor Melanie Brauteseth and Councillor Chris van den Berg, along with a number of eThekwini councillors.

“We have had enough of raw sewage and pollution flowing into our rivers and ocean. Lives and livelihoods are on the line. Raw sewage from the waterworks is flowing into the Umbilo River which flows into the ocean,” they stated.

Members of the DA made their way to the Umbilo Wastewater Treatment Works after meeting at Clover Park on Clover Crescent.
