The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by KwaZulu-Natal Acting Judge President, Isaac Madondo, who congratulated the King on his new role in leading the Zulu nation.

King Misuzulu also received blessings from Anglican Church Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, who anointed him with holy oil.

At this event, President Cyril Ramaphosa handed King Misuzulu the certificate of recognition as the leader of the Zulu Nation in accordance with the legislation.

Ramaphosa said this was a historic moment for the Zulu Nation and the continent.

“This historic moment only comes once in a lifetime. Many of us will never see this historic moment ever again. Our departed kings are with us here and have blessed this day,” said Ramaphosa.

Addressing the nation, the King promised to contribute towards growing the economy of the country, bringing unity and reconciliation among the people of South Africa and the continent.

“I understand that history has chosen me for this time when the Zulus and other countries are facing several challenges such as poverty, unemployment, a trust deficit in government and traditional structures, climate change, disasters, economic meltdown, food insecurity, famine, and diseases that do not only ravage our people but the economy,” said King Misuzulu.

The event was attended by thousands of people; dignitaries from other countries, including King Mswati III; former South African presidents Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma, and leaders of political parties.
