Make-up Mondays: Step-by-step eyebrow tutorial

In this week’s edition of Make-up Mondays, we will touch on how to style your eyebrows according to the latest trends.

EYEBROWS are perhaps the most important part of any make-up look. Whether you’re rocking a natural beat or a full-glam look, eyebrow shape is important because eyebrows frame the face. Eyebrows can enhance your make-up look and if done incorrectly, can ruin a perfectly good full-glam or natural make-up look as it is usually the part of your face to which people’s eyes are drawn.

Eyebrow shape has become a beauty topic with an array of trends popping up over the years. In the 2000s, there was the super-thin eyebrow, and as eyebrow shape trends have evolved, the ideal shape has gone from super-thick and bold, to fluffy and natural which is where we are at in 2022.

In this week’s edition of Make-up Mondays, we will touch on how to style your eyebrows with a step-by-step guide and tutorial.

  • Use make-up to lighten or darken your brows.

It is important to choose the right shade of eye pencil/eyeshadow/brow pomade for your eyebrows. Keep your eyebrows one to two shades lighter than your hair if you have dark hair such as black or brown, and one to two shades darker for blonde or light hair.

  • Form your shape

Choose an eyeliner one shade darker or the same shade at your roots to achieve this look. Make sure to stay within the shape of your eyebrows and not to draw outside of it. Outline your natural eyebrow shape, starting with the bottom of your eyebrows and then moving onto the top of your eyebrows. This will be your template for filling in your brows. Use an eyebrow pencil, anon-glittery eye shadow colour or brow pomade with a small, flat eyeliner brush. Make light strokes and go in the direction of your natural eyebrow hairs. Stay away from the front of your eyebrow with will be filled in later.

  • Fill in your brows

Use your eyebrow pencil, eyeshadow, or brow pomade and eyeliner brush to fill in-between the lines you created above and below your natural brow. Make light strokes which resemble your natural eyebrow hairs. Then go to the start of your brow and make light strokes in an upward motion and proceed to brush out the entire eyebrow to blend in any harsh lines.

  • Conceal around the brow

Use concealer to clean up around the brow, use as little as possible to make blending easier and to keep your eyebrow look as natural as possible. Go around the shape you created, starting at the bottom of the eyebrow and then at the top of the eyebrow, cleaning up the shape and making the end of the eyebrows sharp and neat. You can also make your eyebrows shorter in this step if you feel you have made the shape too long.

  • Blend your concealer

Blend the concealer, blending away from the brow and make sure that there is almost no trace of the concealer left on your skin.

  • Try brow gel to set your brows.

Brow gel is the go-to product you’re going to need to make eyebrows look more natural and set the make-up in. Some gels come in clear, light blonde, dark blonde or brown. If you don’t have any brow gel, you can use petroleum jelly, a clean mascara brush and hairspray or make-up-setting spray to ‘set’ your eyebrows in place.
