Popular Cheshire Home fete is back

The home has not been able to host its annual fete for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

GRAB the little ones and load the car – the Queensburgh Cheshire Home fete is back on the calendar.

“We normally hold an annual fete, but due to Covid, we have not held one for the past two years. Therefore, for this year, I would like to make it a ‘bumper fete’,” said manager Brian Rossenrode, who has been involved in the planning for 33 years. “The first fete I was a part of was in 1989, as a volunteer, and then I took over as manager the following year.”

The home traditionally hosted four functions throughout the year – a Christmas fair, the fete, a hobby and craft fair, and an open day, and Brian is upbeat enough to resurrect them all.

“Since Covid, we have held our open days once a month due to restrictions, but we want to go back to one a year. We are also excited to announce that the hobby and craft fair will take place this year, probably towards the end of August.”

The home, that caters for physically challenged adults, is currently caring for 16 residents but can take up to 25.
All the fun happens on Saturday, July 2 and starts at 08:30 at 890 Main Road, Moseley, Queensburgh.

As well as the normal four shops, which are open every Tuesday and Friday, and a tea garden, there will be collectables, new clothing, jewellery, shoes, handbags, toys, arts and crafts, cakes, a variety of delicious food stalls and a beer garden. As usual, the fete will be supported by the local Lions club and churches, who will have various and interesting stalls to browse through.

Well-known singer, Kobus Nieuwenhuys, who lives in Escombe, will entertain visitors from 09:00 onwards. “I’ve been doing this for 30 years, and my first solo gig was the 1995 Rugby World Cup final in Pretoria, where I’m originally from. People can expect a mixture of country and rock, golden oldies and maybe even a little bit of Afrikaans music on the day,” he promised.

“We ask the Queensburgh public to come out and enjoy the day with us, while raising much-needed funds for the home,” said Brian. For more information, call the office on 031 708 4747.
