Celebration at the biggest mini fair in town

The mini fair, according to DAME member Priscilla Kleyntjens, was a successful fundraising event.

SCALE models, fairy gardens and houses, dollhouses, model trains and bonsai collections, along with a flea market and a variety of stalls, were all on display on Saturday, April 28. The annual World of Miniatures Fair was hosted by The Durban Amateur Miniature Enthusiasts (DAME) at the Westville Country Club.

According to a member of DAME, Priscilla Kleyntjens, the mini fair was a successful fundraising event. “Every year, our financial proceeds, which we obtain through fees, collections and raffles, go towards a worthy cause.

This year, we will donate our proceeds to Queensburgh’s Grace 4 Babies.”

“The main purpose of the event is to showcase and appreciate the unique hobbies of members of the DAME society.

We are a community organisation, and we need the community to understand our enthusiasm; we have a lot of unique hobbyists who love to promote their interest,” she added.

According to Kleytjens, it is important to have a hobby. “Everyone should have a hobby – it keeps your mind active and is a way to mix with people who have similar interests.”

The miniature fair gives the Upper Highway community an opportunity to support local, as the stallholders present at the event generate income from selling their own products.

Kleyntjens said that she is extremely grateful to all those who supported the event, and she looks forward to being part of more in the future.
