Help the Umgeni Steam Railway get back on track

As a means to get back on track, The Umgeni Steam Railway will host an open day which will act as a fundraising event.

THE Umgeni Steam Railway will have an open-day fundraiser to help raise funds to fast-track the repairs to the damaged Umgeni railway line.

The railway was severely damaged as a result of the disastrous April floods, with damages estimated to be approximately R1.5m.

As a means to get back on track, The Umgeni Steam Railway will host an open day at Inchanga Railway Station on Sunday, June 26.

The fundraising event will host various activities from 09:00, such as tours, amazing food and much more.

The community is encouraged to show their support to help these vintage trains get back on track.

The event will host the following:

• fun train rides at R50 per person (R150 per person day pass), on the hour from 09:00 to 14:00
• a craft market waiting to be explored
• refreshments & coffee on sale
• various food stalls to suit most tastes
• the Inchanga Railway Museum will be open for tours
• look for Thomas & Friends in the Modeller’s hut
• take a tour through a shed to see the 110-year-old steam locomotive, Maureen, under repairs, as well as tour the vintage coaches – R20pp
• Footplate experience – R300pp per trip on board Wesley the Steam Engine – booking is required; 12 spaces available for the day; Ts & Cs apply; +16 years old
• a raffle

Please be aware that there are no ATMs or card facilities on site. Only cash or Zapper payments will be accepted.
