Hillcrest SAPS on high alert amid strike rumours

Hillcrest SAPS say they are aware of statements calling for a national shutdown spreading on various social media sites.

THE Hillcrest SAPS have stated that they are on high alert to detect and combat any criminal activity in response to calls for a national shutdown, tomorrow June 10.

The station’s communications officer, Captain Lindzi Smith, said, “We are aware of the numerous messages circulating on social media. We will be on high alert and have prepared a joint operation with local CPF and security companies.”

The police, according to Smith, will not tolerate acts of vigilantism.

“The SAPS will ensure that such situations are thoroughly investigated and that those responsible are held accountable. When people of the public, whether criminal or not, are attacked and killed by a few members of the community, it demonstrates a complete disregard for law and order as well as all people’s human rights in South Africa” added Smith.

Smith said the SAPS, as well as security personnel and the CPF, are keeping a close eye on the situation and the risks it poses. As a result, law enforcement agents have been dispatched and are on high alert in order to prevent and counteract any illegal activity.
