Feed the Babies hosts Golf day to raise funds

Feed the Babies Fund was founded in 1957 and is a registered non-profit, voluntary organisation.

SUPPORT Feed the Babies Fund by taking part in their Golf Day Fundraiser at Kloof Country Club on Tuesday, July 5. The cost is R500 per player or R2 000 per 4-ball. Cost includes green fees, prize-giving dinner. The cost to hire a golf cart is an additional R375 and bookings are essential.

The NPO has been addressing the plight of marginalized babies and children for the past 65 years. Their goal is to make a difference in the lives of preschool children by focusing on their nutritional and educational needs. Feed the Babies Fund trains caregivers in various Early Childhood Development courses at their EDTP/SETA accredited training centre.

According to the marketing and fundraising manager, Sandy Davies, the organisation fed preschool children in KZN from 1957 to 2008 through various organisations and schools in KZN. There are a huge number of rural ECD Centres that function in isolation, with no funded nutritional programme from government. In 2009 Feed the Babies Fund started focusing on these ECD Centres and assisting them with nutrition, training, and resources. They support 130 rural ECD centres, feeding 4 000 preschool children a nutritious cereal daily.

“We have trained over 1 580 practitioners since 2015, impacting over 380 000 preschool children. We train the caregivers in various Early Childhood Development courses which equip them with the tools to effectively manage their Centres and teach a syllabus that will further develop the children and prepare them for formal schooling. In addition to fundraising activities and methods, the organisation fundraises to supplement the costs of training for our caregivers.” Davies added.

“We raise funds through events such as our Golf Day and through sponsorships from trusts, corporates, and the public. We have The School Fundraising Campaign whereby schools either raise money or collect items for our wish list. We also raise funds through our Sponsor a Baby Campaign, which includes a monthly debit order donation of a minimum of R30 – this covers the cost of feeding one child a nutritious breakfast every day for a month. And we accept direct donations. In addition to these methods of raising money, we were very fortunate to have been presented with the opportunity to expand our training programme through the acquisition of a training centre at the end of 2021, which is an additional fundraising source.” Davies said.
