WATCH: Justice served after 2-year animal-cruelty court case

After a two-year-long trial, the Kloof and Highway SPCA have finally obtained justice for Rex.

AN Embo resident has been denied ownership of animals for the next five years and has been sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment or a R4 000 fine.

This comes after the Kloof and Highway SPCA opened a case against the accused for animal cruelty. After a two-year-long court case, the suspect was finally found guilty of animal cruelty by the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.

The Kloof and Highway SPCA marketing assistant, Brigitte Ferguson, said that the dog Rex was a tan-and-white, male, cross-breed Africanis, who was brought in by the SPCA’s Inspector Israel Silevu.

According to Silevu, the dog was tied to a rope no longer than a metre long. This rope had deeply penetrated his neck which led to his fatal injuries.

Ferguson said, “Silevu has played a significant role in the case and was willing to stop at nothing to bring justice to Rex.”

“I am so happy justice for Rex has been served and that the judge and prosecutor took this seriously and saw the pain and suffering Rex had to endure. This is why we fight for justice every day for animals,” said Silevu.
