Cheer, goodwill and bargains on display at market day

Various home-grown enterprises showed off their skills and sold items ranging from arts and crafts to home-baked delicacies. There were amazing foods, live entertainment and fantastic raffles won every hour.

THE first ever CAST and Highway Mail market fun day and car boot sale was a hit. It kicked off on Saturday, May 28 at Home Ground Church in Westville.

“The Highway Mail joined forces with CAST to host its first car boot sale over the weekend, and I can honestly say that I was blown away at how well supported the event was. The community came together on a beautiful sunny morning, and just watching people having fun, laughing, trading and generally just being together, really gave us such a sense of pride.

“The idea was born when our team sat together to brainstorm how we could give back to the community, especially after so much devastation that has been thrown at us over the last few months, not to mention the impact Covid has had on all of us,” said Caxton’s business manager Nicole Vosser.

With 63 vendors and a total of R12 000 being raised, the event ran smoothly. The car boot sale, which doubled as a market-day fundraiser, was a fun-filled morning for families to shop, eat, relax and be entertained while supporting a good cause that helps those in need.

A supervised kiddies play area, with numerous games, as well as face-painting and a jumping castle, was included in the event.

“We could not have had a better day with such favourable weather. The vendors had a great experience, and those I spoke to requested we consider holding the market often, which was great feedback, said George Mwaura, CAST’s public relations and fundraising manager.

“We definitely will be looking at possibly hosting another one in late November for Christmas shopping,” he added.

“After many weeks of planning alongside the team at CAST, we pulled off the event and have made a generous sum of money to support this great organisation. I want to thank my team at the Highway Mail that worked so hard selling boerewors rolls and raffle tickets on the day, with all proceeds going to CAST.

“A special mention goes to our sponsors, Oxford Village Market, Bluff Meat Supply, Highway Printers, Office National, Bargain Basket, Diversico Bakery, Peoples Pharmacy at Knowles Spar and A Toy For You SA. It just shows how much can be done when people work together for one common goal! We hope to run more of these in the near future,” Vosser concluded.
