WATCH: Resident frustrated as sewage pours into his garden

Upset resident Kevin Bradfield now has raw sewage flowing directly into his garden even though he warned the municipality about this issue in 2013. Nothing has been done since.

RAW sewage has been pouring into Cowie’s Hill resident Kevin Bradfield’s property for the past six weeks. The devastating April floods wreaked havoc and caused severe damage in KwaZulu-Natal, causing a sewerage-pipe burst alongside the Palmiet River in Cowie’s Hill.

“After waking up to my garden being submerged in water, I picked up a foul stench coming from my lower garden,” said Bradfield.

According to the resident, he lives along the banks of the Palmiet River and reported frequent flooding of his property due to heavy rains in 2013. “My concern is that, over time, if not addressed, one day, the wall and sewer line will be damaged by flooding, causing damage to property and infrastructure,” Bradfield stated in his 2013 email.

“The municipality attempted to repair the sewerage pipe but had no luck,” he said. “The municipality has not returned to address the situation since their failed attempts to repair or empty the sewerage pipes, nor have they notified me on what actions will be made to clean up this mess.”
