Appeal for better safety measures on Inanda Road

The concerned resident believes that speed traps and police visibility will assist in slowing down traffic.

A CONCERNED Hillcrest resident, Clive George, has appealed to relevant authorities to improve the safety and adherence to the speed limit along Inanda Road.

As a resident who has been running and utilising the road for many years, George said he has witnessed people speeding and driving recklessly and frequent traffic-light violations.

George said it worried him that there is never visible policing along the busy road.

“Every other day, there is an accident; we hear ambulances and police sirens driving by our house regularly.”

He said the accidents happen on most intersections along the road, especially West Riding Road or Hilltop Road and Inanda.

“There have been some hectic accidents along those roads,” he said.

According to George, he has taken up this matter with the local councillor who has taken the matter up with the relevant authorities.

“Unfortunately, nothing has been done; they have taken no visible action. I am not sure what they have done behind the scenes as no one has informed us of anything.”

He appealed for cameras at intersections.

“Speed traps are needed; there is never anyone patrolling; I wish there could be visible policing,” he said.

The resident also urged motorists to play their part by curbing the high number of accidents by driving carefully.

The Department of Transport and the eThekwini Municipality did not respond by the time of going to print.
