To celebrate their union, Clive and Joyce travelled to Knysna first, and then to Port Elizabeth for their honeymoon.

Joyce said they met through a mutual friend, who set up a date for them.

“We just knew after our first date that we were meant to be together. I even wrote in a little book that ‘Today, I met the girl I’m going to marry’,” said Clive.

Joyce highlighted that her husband is kind, loving, generous, wise, and he has a great sense of humour.

“He makes me laugh every day,” said Joyce who is still very much in love with her partner after 50 years.

For Clive, what he admires most about his wife is her ability to be a super mother to their children and grandmother to their grandchildren.

“She is dependable, and we share a mutual love of sport, the bush and travel, and she brings balance to our lives,” added Clive.

Like in any other marriage, the couple said they’ve had their ups and downs, highlight and challenges.

“There have been many challenges along the way, but I think the biggest challenge was the lifestyle change when Clive lost his leg in a motorcycle accident.

“The highlight for me was, and still is, when we both surrendered our lives to Jesus, and chose to follow him,” said Joyce.

Clive stated that losing his leg was a challenge for him, but he overcame his accident, got on with his life and is playing golf again.

They added that their recipe for a long-lasting relationship is: never giving up, even when the going gets tough.

“Marriage is beautiful, and it is hard. You have to work at it to keep loving each other. Forgive each other when mistakes are made,” advised the couple.

They have four children – three boys and one girl. They also have been blessed with nine grandchildren.
