The Legat’s celebrate 50 years of pure bliss

The happy couple expressed their desire to encourage others to keep their marriages healthy even in difficult circumstances.

LOVEBIRDS Louis and Shirley Legat, from Kloof, celebrated their 50th golden wedding anniversary. The couple met in 1969, at Louis’s birthday party, in Pretoria.

According to the couple, Shirley was invited to attend by one of her friends, and just three years later, at the ages of 26 and 30, they decided to tie the knot on May 7, 1972, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, in Pretoria West, in front of their closest friends and family.

The Legat’s shared that they then lived at the Boulevard Hotel in Pretoria, after they got married, as Louis became the general manager of the hotel, before moving to “beautiful Kloof” in 2017.

The loving couple said that they have had a fruitful marriage and were blessed with “two fantastic children, a son and a daughter, as well as four gorgeous grandchildren.”

Their advice to the younger generation who are ready to tie the knot is to “be very sure that you will be able to spend a lifetime with the person you choose, and communicate openly and respect each other’s differences.”

“What we enjoy most about each other is our friendship and mutual love, regardless of the circumstances,” the pair agreed.

When asked what one thing they find attractive about their significant other, a content Louis said, “It has to be her generosity and love for all those around her.” Similarly, Shirley said, “Louis has always had a positive outlook on life and a cheerful attitude to all things. Nothing gets him down.”
