ISLAMIC Circle of Southern Africa (ICSA) in association with Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) and Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS) with MA Motala Islamic Centre in Wyebank, offered relief packages to flood victims.

The 150 recipients were from KwaDabeka, Clermont and Wyebank.

Shabir Nhleko, from the MA Motala Islamic Centre, said they run many programmes for the surrounding community which includes a soup kitchen and skill programmes.

“Some of our beneficiaries were badly affected and we could not sit and do nothing. This is the second donation we have made since the floods. Seeing the need to do more, we approached the ICSA who were more than willing to assist. We truly appreciate it,” he said.

Nhleko said they approached councillors in Ward 19, 20 and 22 who identified most people in need.

One of the recipients, Wyebank resident, Ntombi Nhlobela, said her garage and fence were damaged by the floods.

“We are still residing in the house even though we fear for our lives should heavy rains return. Most of the furniture was damaged because of the amount of water that entered the house. We are just thankful to be alive.”

Nhlobela also thanked the Islamic Centre for remembering them during this time. She added. “We are so happy about this generous donation.”
