IF you’re thinking about following a snaking queue of motorists to top up your vehicle’s fuel tank, you may want to rethink.
Ray Ramandh, owner of Whynotte Service Station in uMmhlanga said there is no fuel shortage in the area.
“There is no fuel shortage. The challenge we are experiencing is that fuel tankers are unable to get into the depot because the road leading to the depot is damaged due to the recent heavy rains,” he said.
Ramandh said queues to fill up at his service station, which is situated at the corner of uMhlanga Rocks Drive and Kenneth Kaunda Road, progressed all the way to Blackburn Road on Thursday (yesterday) evening.
As a result, he had to impose a ration on customers, allowing each them to only fill up R300 at a time.
“We want to make sure that it’s controlled and customers receive some fuel at least to run their errands,” said Ramandh.
“We’re only issuing full tanks of fuel to emergency and rescue workers, SAPS and the like,” he added.
He said he was hoping that the next consignment of fuel will be delivered by Sunday or Monday.
“It can’t be confirmed, but we’re hoping to receive fuel early next week,” he said.
