Durban journo documents journey to work amidst devastation

Caxton Local Media journalist Nia Louw documents the devastation around Durban after massive flooding.

BY noon on Tuesday, 12 April more than 20 people were reported to have died in the floods which have wreaked havoc across KwaZulu-Natal causing extensive damage. 

On Monday afternoon after reports of persistent rain kept coming through, some people made it home safely, while others were met by utter devastation. Reports of homes being washed away in across the city were unrelenting throughout the night. 

Major roads have been closed and residents have been urged to move to higher, safer ground.

To stay safe and keep your family safe from harm, adhere to the following safety measures:

• Disconnect electrical appliances if your house has flooded.

• Do not attempt to cross flowing water sources such as rivers.

• Do not drive across bridges that have flooded.

• Avoid low lying areas that are prone to flooding.

• Stay away from power lines and electrical wires.

• Evacuate flooded areas immediately.

• Pay close attention to media notices.
