Support charity car boot sale

According to organisers this is the first of many fundraising ventures to come between the two organisations.

IN a move to raise funds for charity Caxton’s Highway Mail and The Church Alliance for Social Transformation (CAST) have joined forces. On Saturday, May 21 the newspaper publishing giant and the non-profit organisation will hold a car boot sale at Home Ground Church, The Westville Baptist Church.

Caxton’s advertising manager, Giles Thomas, said the significance of the event was to help make a difference and give back to community.

”We want to be the voice of the community and to communicate far and wide. We also want to be more than just a newspaper, we would like to be your first choice when it comes to trustworthy local communications.”

”We at Caxton have decided to do this as a Highway Mail initiative and we plan to roll it out into our neighbouring communities throughout the year – where we can make a difference, why not do it.”

Thomas added Caxton’s decision to partner with CAST stems from wanting to connect with the community directly and to go to grassroots to join groups helping make a difference.

CAST’s PR and fundraising manager, George Mwaura has also encouraged the community to support the initiative. He added that traders could sell any items ranging from edible goods, home-made items, clothing, arts and crafts or by donating unwanted items to the organisation.

According to Mwaura, the purpose of the event is to raise funds to help CAST aid families who are stuck in a poverty cycle and to make them become economically empowered.

”The cost is R100 to sell out of your car boot and R150 to set up a table and sell your wares. All proceeds will go toward CAST’s initiatives,” said Mwaura.

CAST is a registered non-profit organisation that partners with and equips local churches for compassionate action among the poor in their communities. Their mission is to break the cycle of poverty.
