Dance Magic dancers step to gold

Dance Magic owner, Courteney Wentzel, spoke to Highway Mail about their win at the competition.

A LOCAL dance studio made great strides, achieving gold at The Autumn Festival Dance Competition 2022.

Dance Magic was established in 2018 by sister duo Candice Wentzel (27) and Courteney Wentzel (24). Both sisters have 20 years dance experience and multiple titles under their names. Kimona Kisten (29) later joined the studio as a teacher in 2021, also with years of dance experience and a World Championship title.

The trio holds classes at the New Germany Hall and all ages and dance skills are welcome to learn social and competitive Line Dance.

They have dancers of all ages. “With our junior dancers as young as five years old! Ages in our adult social class range from 20 to 60 years old,” Courtney said.

The Autumn Festival Dance Competition 2022 was held at Highbury’s Centenary Hall on Saturday, March 12. Hosted by Mark Wilson, from Mark Wilson Dance Studio, in association with the South African Dance Teachers Association (SADTA), KwaZulu-Natal Branch. The competition boosted Line Dance, as well as Latin and Ballroom.

Dance Magic dancers took part in the Line Dance session. “SA,DTA competition’s offer vital practice and experience for our dancers, as they prepare to take on Line Dance South Africa (LDSA) competitions, such as LDSA South African Masters, which will be held in Amanzimtoti in July,” she said.

Dance Magic dancers had eight competitors in total take part in the Line Dance competition.

“It was our junior dancers first time taking the competition floor, with both Shiviyan Gengappen (6) and Gabrielle Wazili (7) dancing in the Rugrat section, both dancers achieved gold honours. Bella Packer (9) danced in the Primary Starter section, and achieved gold. Both Hayley Kalp and Rani Nadasen danced in the starter section, with Kalp receiving gold and Nadasen Placing first. Dawn Geeson and Belinda Kok danced in the newcomer section, with Geeson receiving gold and Kok Placing fourth. Kevin Ellis danced in the Allstar section, receiving gold honours and the Allstar and World Champion, also received a special award,” Courtney proudly said.

“The Dance Magic’s teachers are so proud of its competition dancer’s achievements, and wish them all good luck for the other upcoming competitions!” Courtney said.

The next SADTA Line Dance competition, Kaleidoscope 2022, will be held next month on April 9, at Amanzimtoti Civic Centre.
