AN article outlining the outbreak of parvovirus published in the Highway Mail on Friday, 18 February touched the heart of resident and business owner Tamlyn Nurse.
Founder of Blue Bundu Brigade, a Pinetown animal rescue organisation, Karen Janisch reached out and urged pet owners to vaccinate their dogs. This was after eight puppies died from the virus.
After the death of the puppies, the shelter was left with a R31 000 vet bill which was brought down with assistance from donors, fund-raising and adoptions.

Nurse, the owner of Blueberry Blush based in Hillcrest who also has a stall Shongweni Farmers Market hosted a fundraiser for the shelter to also help assist with the bill.
“We networked quite extensively on social media and we were surprised with the turnout. The stall was quiet busy and we also had some puppies up for adoption who received so much attention and showered with so much love. It was overwhelming. It was an phenomenal experience and an amazing day,” said Janisch.
She said a very unexpected amount of R9050 was raised for their organisation. “We paid most of this towards our vet bill and retained a small amount for running costs,” said Janisch.
She thanked Nurse, her team and the public for the special day and support.
Nurse said they try to support a different charity each time they host a fundraiser or receive donations.

“We have donated to a range of charities from women welfare to creches. But recently we were touched by Blue Bundu Brigade appeal and decided that we could show them the love by having a sale at our resident stall at Shongweni Farmers Market and help them lower their vet bill as well as get some donations of much needed food.
“We do have such an amazing community that we were inundated with support and managed to raise over R9000 for Blue Bundu Brigade as well as about 80kgs of food,” she said.
