Westville residents keep their community connected

The duo has decided to host a Westville community picnic which will be held on April 3 from 10:00 to 15:00 at the Westville Old Boys Sports Club.

NATALIE Dupen and Mike Breare created an initiative during the looting and unrest in July 2021 which was structured around ‘making sure all unverified and false information was kept out of Westville’.

Dupen created a WhatsApp group to continuously update the community about looting activity and another for general information regarding the situation. Unexpectedly, both groups received a large amount of traction, “I think across our groups we had 4000 people”, she said.

When the looting ceased, we saw how amazing Westville was as a community, so we kept the groups going, and the idea is the same. “Keep Westville updated with verified information, and to create a place where Westville supports Westville,” Dupen said,

Bothe Dupen and Breare do this voluntarily.

Since July 2021, they have created a website, www.westville.info, which includes a business directory, events listings, classifieds, and a plethora of other information, as well as two Telegram groups.

The duo have decided to host a Westville community picnic which will be held on April 3 from 10:00 to 15:00 at the Westville Old Boys Sports Club.

Dupen said, “The picnic is another example of how Westville supports Westville and connects the community. Picnics are always a nice low-key event where people enjoy themselves and connect with one another. Therefore, to align with our goal, we decided to organize a picnic to bring people together.”

They encouraged community members to support local by attending this event. For more information regarding the Westville community picnic, Email:events@westville.info.
