Kloof couple blessed with 60 years of marriage

Ralf and Veronica Engelbrecht recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

LOVE and faith have certainly been the center of Ralf and Veronica Engelbrecht’s marriage.

The Kloof couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on Thursday, March 3.

“I can not believe we have been married for 60 years, it does not feel that long,” beamed Veronica.

They both grew up in a small farming community just near Greytown and attended the same church.

“I moved to the area at a young age as my father was a missionary,” said Ralf.

Jack and Joan Johnson tied the knot on March 10, 1962.

“He did not take me out but he definitely wrote me lots of letters. It came as a shock to most people that we were planning to get married, especially to my father. We tied the knot at a magistrate court in Pietermaritzburg,” said Veronica.

Ralf worked an as electrician while his wife was a housewife raising their three children.

They lived in the Durban North area for 33 years before moving to Kloof 10 years ago.

Veronica said she loved her husband steadfastness and love for God. “He also has a very quirky sense of humour and I will always adore the love he has for his family. He also assisted looking after our children when they were babies and not many men do that,” she said.

When asked about what attracted Ralf to his wife, he smiled and said, ‘she had three sisters and was the prettiest of them all’.

“My wife is a caring person by nature and she goes out of her way for her family and to help people in need,” he said.

The Engelbrechts believe that their faith in God has kept them in love and blessed for the past 60 years.

Over the years, they have travelled many countries doing missionary work.
