Five cars were stripped of their windscreen wipers in a complex in Pinetown.

“It is very strange. Who would steal car wipers,?” asked Kretschmer.

She said they have viewed camera footage from a block of flats next door and in one of the videos it shows a man sneaking into the premises early in the morning and stealing the wipers.

“He targeted the cars which were parked outside and he did this over two days. He stole nothing else, he was only interested in the windscreen wipers,” she said.

She said three of the cars that were targeted belong to her father, boyfriend and son.

Kretschmer said they just wanted to get to the bottom of this, “It is just ridiculous, my partner has opted to remove them every afternoon,” she said.

Her father, Ronny Kretschmer said he contacted the Highway Mail to alert the public about this crime trend.

“I have been a victim of crime before as my motorbike was once stolen before but this is just strange, the person doing this has also targeted other nearby complexes,” he said.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Captain Bongumusa Manqele said police were not aware of such cases.

“We appeal to the public to report all cases as this will assist police with the correct data of crimes and where they are being committed.

“Reporting all cases gives us an indication of the areas where we need to focus and increase our patrols. We analyse all the crime trends, then focus on targeted areas and place our vehicles to specifically patrol those areas,” he said.
