“WE are stronger together.” With this in mind, the Women of Queensburgh group was formed to offer support to those who need it.

The launch of the group was held on Saturday, February 5 at the Peace Park in Malvern. The day included loads of fun, wonderful bonds were formed and saw women supporting each other.

Attendees shared their stories of triumph and highs and lows of their lives. Aside from being a support group, the club aims to help businesswomen network with each other.

“There is nothing like this group in the area. The women in the area needed a support system to motivate and encourage each other,” said founder of the organisation, Sash Singh.

Human rights activist and founder of the support group, Sash Singh with Lungi Zulu.

She believes the need for such a group emerged following the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“A lot of women were left widowed and jobless and during this time, they often need a helping hand or just a sympathetic ear. We want the group to be a safe space where women can share their stories. Women in the community need to get out more and stand together. Within a few weeks since the group was launched we welcomed about 200 members to our WhatsApp group. This speaks volumes about how important such a group is. The aim of the club is to allow women to grow and enable them to make a difference in their lives and the community,” said the human rights activist.

Singh hopes to use her story of her struggles, to motivate and empower others.

“I am a survivor of gender-based violence and abuse and I am incredibly proud of how far I have come and grown as an individual. No matter what your circumstances are, you must have faith and believe that you can flourish. Women should never give up but rather push past their difficulties and become the best versions of themselves,” she added.

The group hopes to meet once a month to interact and partake in activities.
