Waterfall suffers mysterious water issues

eThekwini Municipality spokesperson, Lindiwe Khuzwayo said the City was not aware of this ongoing water outage as there is stable supply in the area, but promised that the matter will be investigated.

WATERFALL residents and businesses who have experienced severe water shortages and shutdown, in the last months, demand answers.

Tenants at the Link Hills Medical Centre on Niagara Drive have felt this scarcity terribly, as most of its tenant doctors, like the dentist, rely on water to see patients. Those who can still welcome patients without water, worry about the unsanitary consequences.

According to Charmaine Wood from one of the doctor’s offices, they sometimes experience water outages from 08:00 to 15:00.

“On a daily basis, we have contacted the Waterfall councillor, she has informed us that there is nothing more that she can do but inform the head of the Water Department. A team of eThekwini Municipality staff members arrived and left without any solutions,” she said.

When the Highway Mail visited the medical centre on Thursday, January 27, they had low pressure water coming from their taps.

According to Dr David Cumming, before they experienced a complete shutdown in the past weeks, they had low water pressure and then suddenly, the shutdown became a daily occurrence, from the morning to the afternoon.

Waterfall councillor, Pearl Msomi said the water shortage has been occurring from last year. She added she had reported the matter to the Water Department.

“An investigating team did visit the area affected but couldn’t figure out the core issue and cause of the outage, they suspect that there is a low water level at the reservoir,”

Msomi said, as a councillor she has exhausted all her options and will continue to investigate.

On the other hand, eThekwini Municipality spokesperson, Lindiwe Khuzwayo said the City was not aware of this ongoing water outage as there is stable supply in the area.

She did however assure the Highway Mail that a team will be sent out to investigate.

“Residents are advised to please report water outages by contacting the call centre on 080 131 3013, the toll-free number on 080 311 1111 or use the eThekwini Water and Sanitation WhatsApp number on 073 1483 477,” said Khuzwayo.
