Kloof Scout’s Hall receives new lease on life

Kloof residents launched the The Kloof Scouts Hall Project to help garner support and raise funds for the much-needed revamp.

THE dilapidated Kloof Scout’s Hall will undergo much-needed improvements as local businesses and volunteers have joined together to start renovations and improve the conditions of the hall.

The owners of Dance2Dance studios and Kloof residents, Alain and Mell Rijnvis, were in search of new premises for their dance studio when they stumbled upon the Kloof Scout Hall.

After seeing the condition of the hall, the couple immediately felt the need to do something to help improve and uplift the community venue.

They then launched the The Kloof Scouts Hall Project to help garner support and raise funds for the much-needed revamp.

“We didn’t expect the community to come on board the way that they have and we are so incredibly humbled and impressed with their support. We always knew that the Kloof community was amazing, but they blew us away,” said Mell.

A video clip was created and posted online and shortly after, Kevin Cotton, one of the sponsors, was the first person to respond to her post and took up the role of volunteer project manager.

“When the sponsors started coming through, it was so emotional and I was lost for words. We had an overwhelming response within weeks of starting the campaign,” she said.

According to Mell, Cotton made use of his local contacts, who have also come on board to assist. Ecstatic to be part of the project is, Jan Du Plessis, of Complete Roofing Solutions, who can’t wait to start using the hall.

“We stay in Kloof and my son is a Scout. This is so wonderful because now my son can now go do Scouting in the area,” he said.

Cheryl De Beer, from GEO Plastics, who is also a Kloof resident, is proud that residents and fellow business people have taken ownership of its community hall.

“I look forward to the great activities that will now be possible after the revamp and I am proud to be part of a project that gives back to the community,” said De Beer.

A few of the key sponsors who have helped kickstart the project include Complete Roofing Solutions, GEO Plastics, GT Construction and Maintenance, Build It Pinetown and Dezzo Roofing.
