NOSIPHO Duma, a talented 15-year-old, is the eighth artist to be featured on the Woza Moya Artist’s wall, and her work will be showcased throughout the month of January.
Duma, born in Umlazi, is the youngest artist to be featured as the Artist of the Month and her painting, Teenage Pregnancy, is hard-hitting as it depicts a young school girl who is pregnant, with a bottle of alcohol nearby.

About her painting
“My work speaks about peer pressure and issues that young women face while growing up. From alcohol, drugs, and sexual diseases. Teenage pregnancy is one of the biggest issues affecting our society and we need to create awareness to decrease the shocking numbers.
“I hope that by featuring this painting, we can bring some awareness to the huge problem of teenage pregnancy in South Africa. I started drawing pictures in 2020 during lockdown. My father taught me how to use paint and that is when I took the initiative.” said the young artist.
Art has always been a part of Duma’s life as her father, Sibusiso Duma, is a well-known South African artist.
“She is only fifteen years old! We felt her painting had a powerful message for 2022,” said Woza Moya’s executive director, Paula Thomson.
