Mallinger said he was concerned about the thousands of litres of water that have been wasted.

“There are areas which do not have water, and people have to walk for miles to access this precious resource. But here we have clean water getting wasted,” he said.

The concerned resident pointed out that the water leak was now causing damage to the busy road.

The water leak in Wyebank Road is slowly damaging the road.

“I fear that it will just cause more problems. This leak is not far from the Wyebank Reservoir. Has no one noticed it?” he asked.

He highlighted that Wyebank Road was a busy road as many people use it to get to and from work.

“I work in New Germany and use this route almost every day. Schools will also open soon and I appeal to the Department of Water and Sanitation to attend to this matter before it spirals out of control,” he said.

The eThekwini Municipality did not provide comment by the time of going to print.
