Following the unrest in July 2021, several sponsors, including the Hollywood Foundation and Highfield House, alongside artists Candice Leth, Jonathan ‘Snatch 316’ Blaine and Brendan ‘Uno_Bear’ Lyle, partnered to create a stunning mural as part of the Arundel Community Forum’s (ACF) outreach project.

The mural took a total of six days to complete and the final touches to the Arundel Road bridge were added on Tuesday, January 4.

“After the unrest, I got in contact with local officials, the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa), and the community and shared our plans to paint the mural. The community has been amazing and made the process a complete delight. I did a digital mock-up of the mural and sent it to the community, however, we made a few changes while painting,” said Candice.

The local artists also met with Thulani Makhaye, who is a representative from the Durban Natural Science Museum, for feedback regarding the design.
