“It is important to empower residents with information as this could help save lives,” said Sgt Kheswa.

The pamphlets include information on how people are trafficked, transported and exploited. It also highlights tips on how to identify a trafficked child and the different types of exploitations that victims are subjected to and the signs thereof.

“If you suspect that a person is trafficked, you should report it immediately. Contact CrimeStop on 086 001 0111 or the SAPS emergency number on 10111 to report trafficking. Every police station has a detective that is responsible for investigating human trafficking,” said Sgt Kheswa. “It is also important to know local contact points and non-profit organisations that assist trafficking victims,” she added.
