Refurbished centre brings hope to KwaNyuswa community

Project Hope uplifted Siyamdumisa Care Centre with two new classrooms, an office, classroom equipment, educational material, play equipment, a water storage tank, signage, perimeter fencing and a vegetable garden.

AFTER months of hard work and fundraising, the newly refurbished Siyamdumisa Day Care in KwaNyuswa was officially opened.

This was made possible by the non-profit company (NPC), Project Hope.

The NPC fundraised enough money to uplift the Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD), which supports and educates 20 preschoolers in the area.

Siyamdumisa Day Care was started in 2018 by Ntobeko Gwamanda.

The ECD centre has been operating from a building in Gwamanda’s family yard.

With pre-school education as its main focus, Siyamdumisa ensures that the emotional, physical and social developmental needs of each child is at the forefront.

Sara Brown, the chairperson of Project Hope NPC, expressed her heartwarming gratitude to everyone who has supported the Siyamdumisa project, which started in March this year.

Brown said the daycare does beautiful work in the community and they were saddened by the lack of facilities.

“We have been supporting Siyamdumisa Day Care with food relief since the start of lockdown last year. The centre serves underprivileged children every week. The refurbishment will make such a difference to Ntobeko, her staff, and the children who attend the centre,” said Brown.

The group uplifted the centre with two new classrooms, an office, classroom equipment, educational material, play equipment, a water storage tank, signage, perimeter fencing and a vegetable garden, which now supplies the kitchen with fresh produce daily.

She added that Project Hope continues to support the school with weekly food parcels and recently collaborated with local artist, Giffy, who painted a magnificent mural alongside the centre’s office.
